What cast on works best? I am making a hat, again. Only bigger this time, it's for a young boy, with a 22" head!

I always use the long tail cast on.

ok, here's another question, I will be using size 6 circs, yarn is acrylic and says 4 medium. 16 sts on 9's. I need to make a hat to fit a 22" head, with ribbing at the bottom. Can anyone GUESS how many stitches I should cast on???

It depends on your gauge. If your gauge is 5 stitches per inch (which is my average with worsted weight yarn), you would need to cast on 110 stitches. If you want it to be a fitted cap, one that stretches on, you need to decrease that by 20% which would make your cast on 88 stitches.
