with the test they did I fasted the night before [nothing after midnight] and when I got there they got me to drink the glucose drink then poked. were they supposed to poke my finger to get a fasting level BEFORE the drink and then after i drunk it? because they didnt. and the nurse didnt wait even 10min to poke me after i drunk the glucose drink. :looky:

I never had a blood draw before the test. I just went in, drank the stuff, and then an hour later they called me back to draw blood. I also didn't have to fast before the test.

yeah, should've been a draw an hour or two after the drink.

Your blood draw should have been exactly 1 hr after you drank the drink. They take a fasting level before the 3 hr test, but not usually before the 1 hr test.

Your draw should be 1 hour exactly after you finished the drink.
They only do a fasting for 3 hour glucola. You really don't even have to fast for the one hour. It probably does make it a little more accurate though :)

She DEF. didn't wait an hour before drawing blood, after I had the drink.

So no food/drinks except water after midnight the night before, right? My appt is March 30th so no food/drinks after midnight March 29th.

Also, does anyone know about "carb loading" 3-7 days before the test? Should I or shouldn't I?

I've never even had the test. With my first it got overlooked and with my second I just kept "forgetting" to go in  I puked all through my 2nd PG, I really wasn't going to drink something that was definitely going to make me throw up.

If she poked you 10-20 minutes after drinking it there was no point, anyones suger will spie with that stuff. The point is to see after an hour how your body handles the sugar. There is really no need to carb load, it doesn't really help one way or the other. I would probably make them do the 1 hour test properly before wasting 3 hours at the doc. I would be curious what your sugar was after 10 inutes, if it wasn't very high you could probably assume you would have passed if given the chance

2hr test tomorrow at 8:30. :eyeroll: NOT looking forward to it. Seeing as I cannot make a fist w/the left hand....my right arm is going to get all the pokes.

Mine was 12 hours before the 3 hour glucola, so nothing after 8pm the night before my test.

I got three pokes in one arm and one in the other because she SUCKED at finding a vein in my right. It wound up not being as bad as I thought because she used the same hole for all three in my left arm.

GOOD LUCK!

With me I had to do the 1 hour 2 times. First at 11wks since I had almost GD with my first and then again at the normal time. Since they were worried about it they did do a fasting on me and then did it 1 hour after I drank the stuff. I had to fast with my 1 hour since of the GD with my first and then fast with the 3 hour. Sadly I failed both of them and had GD with my second and was doing my own checking several times a day plus doing insulin shots.

that's so bizarre... and not accurate. I'd mention it at your next check up just in case they want you to redo it, which would suck. they need to see how you are metabolizing sugar and if they read it too soon, the results won't be accurate. IMO gestional diabetes is nothing to play around with, KWIM?

I had to take that damn test over and over last time cause they were concerned that I'd get type 1 like my son (a few prego women do get type 1, rare). They have to take the blood one hour after. Some like to take it from the fingers, some the arm. I always monitored myself, made sure I was within range 2 hours after a meal, like how I do with my son.
I just ate as usual, I even had breakfast in the mornings-it is torture to make a woman starve, then load full of sugar, and take a bunch of blood. I passed out with my first pregnancy from that!
