Did you notice a difference when you started taking it? I'm pretty anemic and am taking Niferex (I was supposed to be taking for awhile, and wasn't doing a good job). Anyway, I'm a couple days into it, and I'm EXHAUSTED. I thought iron was supposed to help with getting oxygen to your body and it would help you have more energy, but man, I am lethargic. What gives?
Did the doc, or whoever told you that you are anemic...lol, tell you to begin the regimin?
It may take a few days. Increase your water intake. Make sure you aren't taking it with anything calcium or whole grain. You may need a higher dose. Continue to go to your doc to get your levels checked.
Good Luck mama!!!

Yeah - it's a prescription that I was supposed to be taking all along, and sort of wasn't... then my baby was determined to be anemic...I thought about all the bruises I have on me and my heart palpitations and thought "Hmm, I probably should be taking that". The directions say to take it with a glass of water and a meal, which I'm doing. Sigh. I'll give it a couple more days. I must have the most horrible diet (said as I'm eating puffcorn delights)...

Make sure you aren't taking it within 1 hr of anything dairy or with a lot of calcium. Calcium binds to iron and prevents the body from absorbing and using it.
Dont feel bad Rachel, just PLEASE make sure you are drinking water...lol It will prevent constipation once your body starts to absorb the iron and pushes the rest to the walls of your intestine :)
:giggle:
I hope you feel better soon mama!!!

Ugh! Which was the main reason I stopped taking it in the first place!

This, iron will clog you up quick, it also turns your poo funny colors:twitch: I will take about a week for it to start to help your levels but when it does you'll notice because you'll have aot more oxygen getting to your brain and vital organs and you should feel much better

Also wanted to add that you may have them check your iron binding capacity. Sometimes you need to up other vitamins and minerals to make sure you are absorbing and using the iron properly

I started taking Floradix again a week or so ago because I could feel my heart pounding and remembered that that's what it feels like if I'm getting a wee bit low on iron! I started to feel better in a couple of days.
I took some iron supplements in early pregnancy with Baby Girl that just about killed me with constipation. Thankfully Floradix doesn't do that to me.
