View Full Version : s/o How do you take your grits?
Personally, i'm not a fan! But my dh has a southern mama, so I have to cook them from time to time.
My kids won't touch them at all. I like them with some butter buds and a little sugar.
DH eats them with hot sauce and adoboe (a nod to the Bronx).
And sweet tea - uh, NO! I prefer my tea unsweetend or ice coffee with a little carmel syrup.
So - how do you take your grits? What's your favorite thing to drink with them.

I've only had them while visiting the in-laws in AL, & they had lots of butter. I don't like sweet tea at all, although dh loves it. Since everyone was talking bbq in the other thread, I like the vinegar basted, dry rubbed, sauce on the side. Yum. And I'm so sad I didn't get any crawfish while we were down last month. :(

butter or cheese & bacon. I like them with a biscuit, sometimes with toast and runny eggs.
Depends on time of day, but you can never go wrong with sweet tea!

No grits or iced tea (sweet or otherwise) for me. Ew.
Ok, I am officially a yankee. Because all of the combination described sounded gross to me.
Plain grits (cooked with soy milk) and a little sugar is ok.
I think I prefer a nice civilized bowl of cream of wheat!

Lots of brown sugar and butter for my grits!

Oh and sweet tea has to be sweet enough to hurt my teeth (not really hurt but very very sweet), very strong, and with lemon!

after a day seeing patients in my office, it would come awfully close to sounding like that. i pick up their accent so bad and adding that to my Alabama accent, it's bad.

I like them with syrup or brown sugar...but DH 'bout has a heart-attack when I do that (IT'S NOT THE SOUTHERN WAY!!!), so I've learned to like them with butter and always eat them with runny eggs and mix up the yolk into them.
I only eat them for breakfast, so it's always coffee. :D

I'm a southern gal- I don't like my grits sweet. In fact I really don't think i've ever ate sweet grits...if i did i'd probably think someone got confused. EW....But you can use butter, you can use salt and pepper, bacon, even egg. YUMMO...and sweet tea is my hubbys favorite drink. I personally am on the fence with it. Hubby says the sweeter the better. LOL....

I eat my grits with butter, cheese, bacon, a bit of salt and a lot of pepper. DH and DS1 don't care for grits, DS2 likes his with butter and cheese, and DD takes hers plain.
Sweet tea - yum! I'm definitely in the sweeter the better category. I was so excited when I moved from IN to NC and could get sweet tea for breakfast! :teehee: Peach sweet tea from Sonic... :newdrool:

No grits for me please. However, after spending 8ish years in Tennessee... I've finally been won over: I am a sweet-tea drinker. I used to be a Pepsi drinker, and then I got this bright idea that iced tea was healthier for you. HAHAHAHA... Now I'm addicted to tea instead of soda. It's super swell. Hey-- at least the sweet tea is cheaper :err:

Ohh noooz! Cream of wheat is so awesome!!! My ODD calls it porridge (and I let her because I have no idea what real porridge is.) I love my cream of wheat made with lots of milk, Country-crock, and brown sugar. I make it super thick and my favorite part is skimming the "film" off the top when it starts to cool :err:

What kind of tea do you drink?
I drink Luizianne and whenever my DH messes up and makes Lipton's I can't stand to drink it :shakehead: I have very particular taste buds.
