so today we went w/ our neighbors to the Wilbur chocolate factory in Freeport. I wore Lucas on my hip "rebozo style" - a short wrap that, when tied this way, mimics a ring sling. (I found it amazingly comfy- dare I say more comfy than a ring sling???) Anyway, our neighbor was funny. She kind of looked at me w/ pity and said, "Oh I wish I still had my baby carrier thing. I could have given it to you to use". It seemed like she meant something mainstream like a Bjorn. I think she thought I took a tablecloth or something to hold Lucas b/c I didn't have anything else :toofunny: I guess she doesn't know me well enough yet LOL. I said, "Oh I'mgood. I'm sort of a baby carrier collector. You have no idea" LOL

on a side note: I took my StepD (almost 13) to the babywearing group today and not only did she love seeing all the cuddly newborns (she loves newborns) but she was super impressed with all the wraps and carriers. She said she wants to learn how to do all that when she has a baby someday and she was saying, "it makes so much sense. A woman walks around during her pregnancy and the baby gets used to it, so I can see why a baby would like to be held all snuggled up to the m om instead of stuck in some stroller. the mom can walk around and get so much done too." yay for her!! :) I tol dher I'd be happy to buy her carriers someday LOL

That's funny. People say such funny things when they see a baby carrier that isn't conventional.

Good for your stepdaughter. :)

LOL!! your poor child in a tablecloth! :toofunny:
I had DD in the ring sling today and was getting the "What a clever idea! I've never seen that before!" comments from nice old ladies in line at WM and the PO. It's sad the generations that missed out on babywearing-we're just bringing it back in style!!

Aww. :wub:

I've got some weird comments too. One older man once RAN up to me as I was walking from my car (just got Bram tied up in the MT) and said "you don't have a carseat for that baby??". I had no idea why he would ask me that, he wasn't near enough my car to see in it so I was like "umm, yeah, of course I do" and pointed back towards my car. It took me DAYS to realized that the reason he thought I didn't have a carseat was because I wasn't carrying him in one. :eyeroll:

:laugh:

I never knew about babywearing until I went to my breastfeeding group and they gave me a ring sling. I stop a lady at VBS and asked her how she put her baby on her hip with a ring sling. She just grinned at me and showed me how. LOL :hapdance:

Your daughter is so sweet!

I get the whole "We didn't have things like that when I was a new mom"

to which I reply "Oh, you did - these have been around as long as cloth as been around." and they give me one of these :speechless:

poor kid in a tablecloth! :toofunny:

When Aiden was little, I got all sorts of grins and giggles out shopping and people thought it was cute. (I have a Beco Butterfly II) Now that he's 13 months and I wear him on my back, I get looks like I have three heads! :giggle:
~~~~~~~
Although I'll admit it is kinda funny with skinny ole me wearing a kid that's 1/4 my weight on my back.
:lol:
I love it. I had Colby in a MT today at work (a large mainstream hospital) and one of my nurse coworkers starts talking to me about a catbird carrier that is "like an asian style carrier" and that I should get one. Catbird makes MTs. Not too sure on WTH she was talking about...
On a side note I told me pedi today that Colby sometimes falls asleep in my mei tai and then I went on to say- you know like a baby carrier. And he said "I know what a mei tai is". I'm sure my jaw dropped.
I tend to get the best comments from little old ladies ilke "I wish I had something like that!!!" or "I'd have been able to get so much done when my children were babies if i had one of those!" Even men give me cool comments like "that seems really handy" LOL
A guy once came up to me when I was walking with my son in a stretchy wrap, and asked if I had a dog in there WTH?!?! Granted he was a newborn and pretty curled up in there, but really a dog? that's the first thing that came to his mind?
