I have a bowel movement like once a week.
I know thats not normal, but what could be causing it? or what could I be doing to cause it.

I'll go if I drink a few cups of coffee, but Im not an avid coffee drinker, maybe every other day or so. :sigh:

:yeahthat: I've heard you're supposed to poop 3 times a day, but I don't know anyone who does. I think some people just go less often.

Stress, and not enough water.

Do you drink plenty of water?

yes, you need more water and more fruits and veggies & some whole grains. If it's processed, I wouldn't be eating it. Just eat more whole foods. If you don't like veggies try steaming them slightly. Make sure they are still crunchy and full of color though. Not mushy.

probiotics too!

:ditto: Of all the things that help stuff move along, probiotics do a great job and have many other benefits as well. :)

It's famous for being in yogurt - but you can actually get it in capsule form as well. I just ordered a bunch yesterday for the whole family. Acidopholus and bifidus are big ones that you might be able to find at your local drug store. A health food store would have lots of options.

Thanks, I always wondered what the hype with activia was.

It doesn't really bother me, going only once a week, I feel like I lose bout 10 lbs doing so, I was just wondering if its bad for me :err:

Well, it's probably not *good* for you - poop is toxic, you know? Your overall health would probably improve if you were going more regularly.

Are you constipated, or you just don't have the urge very often?

Yes violet it is like poison! Seriously can have the same effects as depression. I went to the dr about my issues and they told me that most of my headaches and aches in general were probably caused from the toxins my body needed to get rid of but held on to.

I don't think it's healthy to go once a week. IMO, that's a lot of waste building up in your system and then just sitting there.

Water is a sure fire thing, so is yogurt, but if you want a quick tasty fix, get some 100% prune juice and drink about 8oz a day and it should help. I wouldn't drink more than that at the start. You could also do fresh prunes, or dried ones too. HTHs

Vi, when I wasn't eating healthy (ie, not eating) is when I only pooped once a week. All I'd eat was a salad or an apple here or there.

I'd talk to your doctor to see if there is any kind of regimine they can suggest. I think it's important to poop daily or twice daily (per Dr. Oz) :giggle:

Violet, I've been a once every couple day pooper for a SUPER long time too. No, it's not good for you. I never feel constipated but it's been confirmed by x rays (the x rays were for different reasons) that it was just building up in my system. You could literally see it all in there...sorry TMI ladies.

Anyway, I take fiber supplements and eat tons of veggies (spinach salad with apples and avacado, broccoli, carrots) and fruits and whole wheats. I can tell when I start to not eat enough because I dont' poop enough. I'm happy if I can go once a day! :err:Also, up the water intake. I'm really bad about drinking enough water so I just carry a water bottle around with me all day. 32oz. I try to drink at least 2 of them a day.

Hope that helps! Get to poopin lady!

You need to drink tons of water- like until you float and if you still need help take a gentle laxative- stool softener or miralax- use a little every other day until you get things moving.

Some medicines can slow things down, too, and reduce the urge. I was on muscle relaxants and pain meds for a while and I happened to have an x ray that showed I *really* needed to go, but I had no urge.
