if your family is sick?

Do you have a check list you follow? Special areas you focus on?

Im seeing more and more people posting about deep cleaning/disinfecting their homes due to the flu.

Just wondered what you do. :)

When Katelynn had the swine flu I made it a habit to do a full disinfect every morning. I used lysol on doors, pillows, lights, toys, faucets, sinks, phones, remotes, couches, cabinet handles ect.

Then I took bleach water to my counter tops. I used clorox anywhere for the fridge.

When they've had tummy bugs I lysol all the above and pay extra attention to the toilet and hand washing areas and if they've used a puke bucket then it gets bleached out after every use.

I make sure I hit the "hot spots" that tend to be forgotten in the day to day cleaning. It's mostly stuff that is habitual to clean now, since we have such strict cleaning/disinfecting procedures for work.

We use the ebil bleach at work though
Phones, door knobs, light switches, cabinet and fridge handles, etc.

I always bleach down the bathroom anytime someone has been sick, then I will clean their bedroom (wash bedding, sanitize everything, etc) and then clean the living room and anywhere else the sicky may have spent time.

I make sure to wash bedding daily. I wash with HOT water and a tad bit of bleach.

I spray with Lysol.... On the door nobs, on the light switches, and anything that is touched... sinks, toilets... and then again just in the air... And I do it at least 2 times a day.... Thats when someone here is sick.. If no ones sick... I'll do it once a day or so...

When we are sick I use lysol or those disinfecting wipes on the door knobs, I scrub down the bathrooms with bleach, all the faucets in the house, the toys get wiped with the wipes, bedding gets washed on hot, I will also add bleach to the dishwasher and the dishwater. Then the chairs and the table and I will mop the floor with either a bleach solution or an antibacterial.
For bleach use one cup to one gallon of water. I mix it and use in a spray bottle.
Another alternative is
Hydrogen peroxide mix 50/50 with water
I also crack some windows for fresh air.

I do this...

I also clean the toys they have played with. I limit what they can play with so I don't have alot of toy cleaning to do. I will sometimes open a few windows for an hour or so (depending on how cold it is outside). Just so I can get some fresh air in. I change their toothbrushes, then change them again as soon as they are done being sick. I keep disposable cups in the bathroom so their is no sharing in there.

Good idea... About the disposable cups... I never thought to change toothbrushes like that... I just buy new ones every couple months...

When I have one that's sick (like now) I clean everything down daily with pinesol and bleach....the light switches, door knobs, walls, floors.

I hate those lysol wipes. Have you ever looked at what % is disinfectant? like 2%

:hide: i think i may be the only one who doestn do a huge deep clean after the kiddos are sick.

Door knobs, walls and doors are wiped down 2 maybe 3x a year. Counters/table are cleaned daily with Lysol kitchen cleaner, bathrooms (cleaned once a week) are cleaned with bleach aroudn the toilets, the liquid/sudsy bleach cleaner for counters and toilet bowl cleaner. then i use the wipes as a final wipe down for all.

granted we arent sick a lot and its usually not very bad but i dont feel the need to do a SERIOUS clean every single time. i think its good to keep it sorta "dirty" bc over killing germs can be bad.

I dont like the Lysol wipes... I use the spray.... when I wipe things down its just a sponge with dish soap and maybe bleach in the water...
