So how do you all do it?

Do you move your babies into the next size as soon as they wouldn't be swimming in the outfits?

Do you wait until the one they are currently in now is so tight it's difficult to dress them before moving on to the next size?

Or in between? How do you decide it's time to put away this size and take out the box of the next size?

Since everything sizes a bit differently, I just dress her in what fits. I use the month-sizing as a guideline.

I wait untill it is slightly snug/too short. then switch over to the next size

Well, you see, the anal organizer in me wants to switch the entire wardrobe out the second one item is getting too tight on my child. :twitch: It's so hard to have a current rotation of different sizes. They must all be the same size!

Yeah, I know, I'm..... well, is there even a word for it? :giggle:

It depends on how much I like what she has vs. what is new. I tend to use clothing that is too big on Kitten sooner than stuff that I don't like as much. So her gymboree stuff ends up on her when it's too big (and thus it gets pinned or whatever), and some of her more used hand-me-downs tend to get moved out faster and brought in slower.

We do it on an item by item basis, and I just throw everything that she's grown out of on the closet floor until I'm completely done with a size. Then I box it all up and label it and stuff.

I do it when things are tight on her, then move her up. She is usually swimming in the others if I do it before that.

I wait until it's slightly tugging. Different brands fit differently too so I just kind of keep a few sizes around.

If I had to switch out the entire wardrobe I'd do it when the first item in a size stopped fitting. That would be my cue to change out the whole thing.
But here we do it on a by item basis.

i'm super ocd about the girls' wardrobes, too. first,i shop ahead at sales, clearances, secondhand and thrift shops and stockpile future sizes. i've got them in bins labelled w/ sizr and season. As they outgrow stuff, i put each item in a specific spot in their closet. once there are several outgrown things built up, i have dh pull the bins and put dd1's outgrown stuff away for dd2 and put dd2's stuff away for resale/yardsale/donations. then i'll pull the next size up and cycle it into their wardrobe. that means i'll have both the smaller and larger sizes out for a bit, but usually once I start putting the new (to them) stuff on them, I realize it fits so much better than the small stuff and I'll cull the smaller stuff out fairly quickly. the exception would be very well-loved items in the smaller size that are too cute to store just yet or that dd1 loves too much to take them away yet. dd2 doesn't care what's on her, so that's all me. dd1 is much more vocal about stuff going back into bins.

also, as I bring stuff into the house from sales and such, I will wait until I have several items, then pull the bins and work it into them, checking to make sure I have enough of each kind of thing and that they go together. for example, I'm working on dd2's size 5 wardrobe right now and I know I need plain, solid-color pants and a bunch of shorts as well as long-sleeved dresses and leggings and maybe a few sundresses.

sigh - that sounds like a lot of work, but I enjoy working on their wardrobes and thrifting, so it's not bad.
We're also very lucky that dd1 and dd2 were both born in June (their b-days are 11 days apart) so dd2 can generally use all of dd2's old stuff. does that stop me buying? no, but still.

My kid is 13 months. & I just do it by clothing item, if something is getting snug I'll put it in the tub to save for the next kid. He still wears 6-12 months in some things & 12-18 months in other things, so I can't just go by the sizing.

I usually shop sales/clearance ahead or when family asks what size he's at I tell them the next size up. & just store the clothes that are too big in two of his dresser drawers. That way I don't have to shop much when he needs new clothes, they're already there.

I go item by item. I keep a bag of in the closet that clothes go into once they are too tight. I keep two dresser drawers of the too big clothes, so that I can easily add some larger sizes. I wish we had more standards behind the size on the tags. For example, my 15 month old is wearing a coat that is 3 - 6 months. It was a little big on her last winter, so it is just right now. Most of her pjs are 12 months, but dresses are 6-9 mo.

If its cute i put it on as soon as it comes close to fitting LOL Dresses she wears a wider variety of sizes in because she can also wear them with leggings .. I genreally have more then one size out at a time .. as soon as something is DEF too small I out it in a box on the shelf of her closet and when the season changes I pack up the clothes but size and season and put them in the attic !

RIght now she has some 6-12 month dresses tights and leggings mostly 12 month outfits .. but also some random 18 month stuff .... all her pjs are 12 or 18 months both fit !

I buy a lot at end of season clearances in bigger sizes at gap old navy hanna anderson kenzie kids etc ... I buy really nice clothes - i just try to get them on sale .. lol

well i just put it on, if its a little big no big deal. like asher has these pants that only fit if he has shoes on. it sucks, since he needs 12 on bottoms(they are a little small) and 18 on tops(are still a little big). so how can i get him to use the outfit correctly. i jsut use it.
Do you wait until the one they are currently in now is so tight it's difficult to dress them before moving on to the next size? i just change him to a size up once his close look small on him, or they dont fit right.

Or in between? How do you decide it's time to put away this size and take out the box of the next size? i have it all set up already the dresser ashton used is 3 drawers i put the top draw what he can wear now, shirst, pants out fits that i fold. the closed has 3 blastick draws that have t shirts, pjs, socks, and some other things. then the closet is set up left to right 0-5t once they dont fit i put them in a box or give them away, i have been giving a way a lot this time.(hoping to have a girl next time) then as i just start moving the clothign from the bottom draw up . top drawer had 12 month things and some of the 18 month things he can fit. middle drawer has 18 month thigns things he cant use right now (summer, or the 18 month looks way to big on him) the the bottom has 24 month.

hope that helps

I do this also.

I give all outgrown clothing away. Usually change over when it is getting a little snug. I just switched my 10mth old over 2 days ago to all his 12mth clothing cause 6-9mth was getting snug. So I ended up taking all the 6-9mth clothing even if it still fit and putting it into trash bags. I just don't want to deal with having to pass a few pieces on later so it all goes.

I understand I am just like that. Usually the minute I can put them in the next size and it isn't TOOO BIG the whole wordrobe gets switched out. That I and I get bored of seeing the 'OLd" stuff so I want to see her in something new.

i'm the other way around. I'm frugal and I want to stick them in their old stuff as long as I can, without seeming cheap.
