I just signed up for my first Tri and would love to get some pointers from some experienced tri-atheletes. Anyone here?

Holla! Welcome to the wonderful crazy world of multisports!
I'm on hiatus for training since I am currently pregnant, but I look forward to getting back to it after this baby is born.
So, what event are you doing? Details? I want to live vicariously through you!

I'm doing the Wildflower Triathalon Mountain Bike Sprint course. It's a 1/4 mile swim in a lake, 9.6mile mountain bike course up a crazy hill, and then a 2mile run. I swam in high school and college, so my biggest concern is the biking. I figure if I'm exhausted I can always walk the run portion.
My friend and I are doing an 11-week training program for beginners that has daily workout plans for us.
I'm excited, I wanted to do it 2 years ago before I got pregnant with DS, but couldn't find anyone to train with. This time there is a group of about 6 moms doing it with me. It's about 1 1/2 hours away at a campground, so we go there the day before and camp out. I'm going to take the kids to my parents who live about an hour from the lake. DH is going to come watch if he can get off work.
Question for you - Is there a tri-suit out there that is good for top-heavy women? All the ones I've seen have little or no built in bra. Or should I just do sports bras underneath??

beginnertriathlete.com is a good place for info, I know they have some good training plans available free there.
As for the suit, honestly I'd plan on wearing a bra underneath. I am large chested and there just wasn't enough support for me with the built in.
I have one of these: http://www.teamestrogen.com/prodZT_S8WTS01.html
I ended up wearing a cycling jersey and tri shorts for the sprint I did last year, and I am really glad that I did. The suit is nice, but hard to get on and off, and if you have to pee, it is going to be a PITA.

If I can do it, anyone can! My ultimate long term goal is the Ironman, by the time I am 35. That is a long ways off, but I cannot wait to get back to some basic fitness once this baby is born. I have done some this pregnancy, but being sick so much has kind of put a damper on it.

This thread makes me super happy, btw.

That's what I was thinking about the bra.
My friend's DH is working on getting us a deal on suits, and I think most people are leaning towards 2 piece ones. I like the looks of the one piece better, they look so bad@ss!! But the peeing thing may not be worth it!

WoW! An Ironman! That is awesome!
My goal is to just finish this one! Depending on how it goes, I may try to do the local one here in the Fall. That one swims in the ocean, which I would prefer over a lake :gross: ! But it's a road bike course, so I would either need another bike, or just different tires.

heh, I am so out of shape right now, I am gonna need all 6 years, lol. Had I not gotten pregnant, I would be doing another sprint this year, and an olympic distance.
I would recommend saving up for a good road bike if this is something you want to do on a regular basis. Aside from that, the ride is so much different. Mountain bikes are heavy and clunky, I can go must faster and longer on my road bike.

Yeah, I think a road bike purchase may be in my future! But I think DH would flip out if I put another bike in our garage. He doesn't ride bikes and is always cursing at the amount of room in the garage taken up by bikes, bike trailers and strollers!! I have a hanging rack, but we've yet to install it.

Question....do you reccommend a wetsuit for a sprint distance event? It's in a lake in Ca the first weeked in May, average water temp will be between 65 & 68 degrees. I'm thinking it will be ok without one, but my teammates don't.
