Okay so I ran into something at work today and thought "oh, my boob is more tender than normal." Then I went on about my day. About an hour later my boob started to throb.. So I gently massaged it to see if I could pin point where the achiness is coming from. (Seriously thank God no one walked into my office) It is only my left boob and I found a hard lump at the bottom. It was about 2". But I thought, okay it's been 2 1/2 hours since I last pumped and that session got cut short. So on my lunch I sat in the bathroom (where I always pump at work, it's a private bathroom and quite large. I have a nice leather chair and stool to put my pump on), anywho, I pumped for 20 minutes and I kept checking to see if the lump was getting any smaller. When finished, there is still a lump about 1" in diameter. It feels like a huge bruise to the touch. I tried to point my pump to pull more from that area, which I noticed I got steady stream from. I massaged it while pumping as well.

I've read many of your horror stories about mastitis and really don't want it to blow up any futher. So any suggestions on how to work with this would be appreciated. Thanks ladies!

I suspect so. Although normally you will see a "pimple" on the nipple and I see nothing. My thought is maybe it hasn't been clogged long enough to form? I wound up leaving work early to pick up my older DD after getting a call that she is sick. So I am home now and the first thing I am doing while online is nursing. Although Kiera just had a bottle at daycare when I unexpectedly picked her up. As I nurse her and feel around it seems A LOT smaller already.

oh I have never had an experience like this however I think along with nursing you can use a hot shower to help. I hope it heals soon!

Okay - fingers crossed - I think I resolved it! When I got home I nursed Kiera on that side in a direction that would pull from the bruised and obviously full area. It was increadibly smaller right off the bat. I nursed her from that side first all night and it seems to have resloved....whew! I had a pulgged duct when she was about 3 weeks old and DON'T want that ever again. Thanks ladies.

I'd keep massaging it daily and esp in the hot shower! I've been having problems with a recurring plugged duct but I have the blister thingy on my nipple. You can have one way inside as well and I think if its not totally cleared out it can keep clogging up. If it does recur again soon I'd consider taking Lecithen. I take it like 4 times aday now and I think i"m a week w/o a plug right now - I've had like five or six recurrences since Christmas day.
