Does anyone use these supplements? My chiro wants me to use their multivitamin and linum-6 (omega 3 supplement). She was going to charge me $125 for an 8 week supply but I never pay full price for something unless I HAVE too. ;) So I came home and searched online for a place to buy them cheaper.
Well, I found this website (http://www.quackwatch.org/11Ind/lee.html) and now I wonder about the company. Has anyone used them before? She likes them because they're whole food vitamins, not synthetic.
If Emily ever decides to wean I'll probably use their detox program (under her supervision) also.
Oh, btw--I did find them cheaper. :giggle:

You will probably find reports for every vitamin company out there on those websites. I was an Independent Distributor for Pharmanex and we had product claims (of what they could do), clinical trials to back up those claims, and there were still those who didn't want to believe or who had bad experiences with our product.
Here's the few questions I would ask:
1. Are the pills (multivitamin) in a capsule or are they one of those formed pills? If it's a capsule, that's good. But studies have shown that those pills with the "shellac" type covering over them are hard for the body to digest/breakdown and you're not getting whatever nutrients are supposed to be in them.
2. What's the ratio of filler to nutrients in the products?
3. Where are the omega-3 products culled from? Are they a fish oil? Or a flaxseed? If fish oil, how do they ensure that you are receiving mercury-free products?
4. What is the efficacy of the product? Meaning, how well is it absorbed by the body?
Since you are bf'ing, I'd ask for a product info page on the items you're being told to use, go to kellymom.com and make sure there aren't any "no-no's" on the list.
I'm surprised they told you a multi-vitamin. Normally, a breastfeeding mom is encourage to continue on pre-natals to rule out any "no-no's" and to be sure your iron intake is good.

She gave me a choice for the omega-3, either one from fish or one from flax and I chose the flax.
I told her I was taking a prenatal and she said that most of them have synthetic junk in them and it would be better to take this.
Here's the website for the company http://www.standardprocess.com/display/router.aspx I tried to find out the specifics but I can't find them. lol
It seems like for every doctor that suggests a vitamin / supplement there's someone out there saying it's a load of whooey. So confusing for dorks like me. :looky:

I will agree that most store-bought products tend to be worthless due to the synthetics and fillers.
Standard Process is seen in nearly every chiropractor's office in the country. I don't know if they just market to them only or what, but nearly every chiro's office I've been in carries SP. I've been in a lot because I was trying to get Pharmanex into chiro offices and came up against SP more often than not.
I would choose the flaxseed over the tuna anyday. The only hesitation I would caution you on...the flaxseed also contains omega-6. We need both 3 & 6, but too much omega-6 in the body can cause inflammation. So if you start to notice puffiness or muscle aches, stop the omega pills for a couple of days to see if it gets better. The normal diet these days gives us way too much omega-6 already and we don't get anywhere near enough omega-3, so just keep an eye on that.
BTW: You're question here has solidified my decision to start taking herbology classes and to start in with nutritional classes too. I have little tidbits of info, but I'd really like to know more and be more knowledgeable, so THANK YOU for posting this! :flirt:

Are you a vegan? Do you have any food allergies/sensitivites?
Wow...there's a lot of cow by-products in that multi-vitamin. I would be concerned about that.
I admit, I'm biased. I still take the Pharmanex products and can certainly tell a difference when I forget. I can send you a box of Pharmanex PreNatals (http://www.pharmanex.com/intercom/productDetail.do?prodId=01003417), I have some extra. I'll be getting some of our Omega-3 (http://www.pharmanex.com/intercom/productDetail.do?prodId=01003536)(we cultivate from krill in the Antartica region *mercury-free*) here in a couple of days, so I can send you one of those too if you want.

Jerae, can I pick your lovely brain about what vitamins to choose too?! I'll start my own thread. :flirt:

You can pick it, but really, I'm not licensed or educated enough to really help any specific issues.

I'm a meatatarian :hide: and don't have any allergies. You can send some samples, if you'd like! :) I need something until these get here. ;)

Vitamins can be so confusing. I usually just go to the health food store in tulsa called Akins and ask there. And then find it later cheaper online.

My holistic dentist put me on those. I did the whole detox thing. I like the Catalyn (the multivitamin) but when pg I still feel better taking something else with it (like folic acid, etc).
I love the Zypan. I really do think they are good products. Can I ask where you found them cheaper???
