Sad today
So my oldest ds really wanted to go back to Middle School. My DH and I came up with a contract for allowing him to go/stay there but I just feel so saddened that he won't be homeschooled this year. I will still be HSing my middle son. I can understand him wanting to be with his friends. I just hope and pray that he has had enough guidance at home to stay away from negative peer pressure/ poor choices.
Anyhow- my little vent is over.. Prayers/ positive thoughts welcomed..

I'm sure he'll do fine (plus, you can still monitor who comes over, where he goes and who he talks to on the phone at home )

We're not there yet but as much as I plan on HSing my boys through all of their school years, I can't say something like this will never come up. It would break my heart and scare the crap out of me at the same time.
You do the best you can as a parent to make sure you teach your children all they need to know to make good decisions and eventually, it comes time for them to show you that they can. I hope he has a positive year and everything works out!

The thing is that with my oldest, we did an immersion program (almost like private school) then public school, then homeschool. He made all of his friends in ps and wants to go back. It is just so frustrating and feels like a losing battle, even though I know I did my best and did what MANY MANY mothers would never do/sacrifice. For that, I feel good.

I'm sure you have done an amazing job! I went to ps and I think I turned out ok. I'm sure it's difficult though. You feel like you know what is best for your child and what you want for them and they have TOTALLY different ideas. I'm sure he will respect you so much more for listening to his wants and trusting him.
This is something my parents were so good about when I was growing up and I really respect them for it and I think I had a closer more open relationship with them because of it. My kids are still young but I know it's something I'm going to have difficulty with when they get older. Kudos to you!!!
Where in Seattle do you guys live?

We did that with Aneliese, and she feels the same way. I'm sorry that you are feeling this way, and honestly, I wouldn't let any of my kids go back to public school, but that's our own family. You do what's best for yours.
I was going to ask, though, do you have a homeschool group? Is he involved with alot of other peers in the homeschool process? I know my kids have a lot of friends who we see at least weekly. I hope it all works out for you.
